Renault Zoe: EV For The Mass Market, Offering 250 Mileage

The Renault Zoe is very popular in the UK as the electric vehicle is much affordable, dubbed the vehicle for the mass market. Also, the car comes with a larger trunk and a longer range. The car claims a real-world 186 mileage.

Renault revamped their Zoe lineup and fitted the vehicles with new and more powerful batteries, 41kWh battery, 92bhp. Although the design of the EV is understated, it is still a conventional car. It comfortably sits 4 people, with its rear door handles being hidden.

Renault has worked with LG Chem to refine the cells for the batteries, boosting their capacity. According to the company, the official figure is a 250-mile range. But during the summer, the Zoe can achieve 186 miles, while in the winter, 124 miles during real-world driving conditions.

Since Renault is banking on research results that EV could be driven by 2/3 of the population by 2030, they are offering new car buyers the option of getting the car with the battery outright for £5,000 more. But, they are also offering leasing the battery as another option, which has become more attractive to buyers. The additional monthly battery hire charge would depend on the annual mileage, per Express UK.

There will be two choices for the new battery, the Q90 Z.E.40, and the regular R90 Z.E.40. The Quick Charge feature is housed in the Q90 Z.E.40, offering, of course, faster charge time but with less power and range.

According Telegraph UK, a complimentary 7kW fast-charging wall-box comes with the EV regardless of the purchase plan. This also comes with a free home installation. This allows the car to be fully charged in around 7 hours 25 minutes. Renault also noted that a cost of about £3.50 would be needed for a full 186-mile charge.

When it comes to the car's dash, a 0-60mph is achieved at 12 seconds, leisurely, while an 84mph at top speed. Since the car comes with only one single ratio in its automatic transmission, power delivery will be linearly smooth. This will result to relaxing driving experience.

The Renault Zoe has been available for pre-order since mid-December with the first batch of deliveries arriving in January 2017. Price range for the EV is around £17,845- £26,245 (plus battery hire).
