The IPhone 7 is already a high-tech smartphone but new technologies prompt Apple to replace old features with new ones. The home button is expected to be a feature that users will not be seeing anymore in the next upcoming iPhone 8.

Mashable reports on what are the expected changes and the reasons why they will come about. Even if the familiar home button will be gone in the next IPhone 8, it will be replaced by better features that are supported by new technology.

MacRumors has announced that a research report leaked through Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst from KGI Securities hints that the home button will certainly be removed in the new IPhone 8 and will be replaced by a thumbprint sensor placed in the screen. This may not be the first speculative report on the removal and replacement of iPhone 7's home button but it proves that Apple is working on a biometric sensor system.

The iPhone needs to replace the home button and its current Touch ID system to shift to an OLED display that features edge-to-edge bezel-free phone monitors. The fingerprint recognition technology which works on the IPhone 7 with home button is not compatible with OLED panels that require optical ID technology to function.

The much talked about facial tracking sensor that scans the faces of users to be used for identification will be installed in the new iPhone model. This will make the new iPhone's security much more reliable.

According to Kuo's report, there is a possibility that both fingerprint ID and facial recognition technology will both be used in the new iPhone 8 model. Kuo also believes that Apple will employ the latest more sensitive film sensor in place of the current sensor used in iPhone 7.

The new film sensor will require a metal structure under the phone's panel that will add to its structural strength. The disappearance of the IPhone 7 home button has given way to more technological improvements in the upcoming iPhone 8 model.
