A total of 45.973 SUVs were sold in just one year, 2016, equating to approximately 30% of Jaguar’s sales. The British automaker is already at an advanced stage of development of its second SUV which is a prototype for which has just been spied.

According to Auto News, with the F-Pace crossover flying off Jaguar dealers’ lots, it makes sense for the British automaker to add a smaller but more affordable utility vehicle to their lineup. E-Pace will make its debut probably first in Europe and then in the United States. It is believed that it is based on the same platform that underpins the Range Rover Evoque, but the E-Pace is a little bit smaller than the F-Pace.

E-Pace will also be powered by Jaguar Land Rover’s four cylinder Ingenium engine family which includes gasoline and diesel engines available with several horsepower ratings. This will be the third crossover in the Jaguar lineup after the F-Pace and larger J-Pace. E-Pace is not the same vehicle as the upcoming I-Pace electric SUV. I-Pace uses a new and specifically designed platform with batteries mounted in the floor and front and rear electric motors.

Jaguar’s F-Pace is already in the top of the sales chart in its first year on the market. A total of 45.973 SUVs were sold in 2016 which is 30% of Jaguar’s sales. Jaguar’s next SUV will sit below the F-Pace and it will be called E-Pace. The prototypes will be similar to those of the F-Pace though the E-Pace looks to be the sportier of the two. It is also believed that it will be a five-door SUV. The E-Pace will be a compact model which will target the Audi Q3, BMW X1, and Mercedes-Benz GLA, Motor Authority reported. It is also believed that a debut will take place in the late 2017 or early 2018.
