Lamborghini Scores Record Sales in 2016: More Car Sales Expected To Happen In 2017

In 2016, Lamborghini sold 3,457 cars, eclipsing the 3,245 units it sold in 2015, an increase of 7 percent over the previous year. Lamborgini has been selling more cars each year since 2011 and 2016 which were good years for the Italian carmaker.

As reported by Motor Authority, the Huracan represented the bulk of Lamborghini sales with 2,353 cars delivered.  Another popular Lamborghini model, Aventador, also sold well in 2016. More than 1,000 Aventador cars were produced by the company during the year.

Lamborghini is represented by 135 dealers in 50 countries all over the world. Its major markets are the United States, which is the biggest, followed by Japan, U.K., Germany, Canada, the Middle East and China. The 2016 sales of Lamborghini cars increased in all these major markets where the brand is sold.

The company is adding new cars to its lineup. The Aventador S and another variant of the Huracan will be introduced in 2017 to boost sales.

"In 2016 Lamborghini has proven to be in excellent shape," said Stefano Domenicali, the manager and CEO of Lamborghini "This is a real team achievement and it is all the more remarkable as we are at the same time preparing not only for new models in our super sports car range but for a company-wide quantum leap in our product portfolio-the third model line."

The company is projecting more sales in 2018 with the introduction of the new Lamborghini Urus SUV. The Italian plant in Sant'Agata Bolognese where the Urus SUV will be built is expected to be finished within the year. The Urus is a much awaited SUV brand in the market since it will finally be produced by Lamborghini, a known super sports car maker.

The Urus SUV concept by Lamborghini has been in the making since 2012 but global economic conditions and labor concerns delayed its production. With the advent of the Urus SUV in 2018, Lamborgini expects to sell more cars in the years to come.
