General Motors Improves MyLink Infotainment System, To Debut In 2014 Chevrolet Impala

The new 2014 Chevy Impala isn't scheduled to go on sale until next spring, but when it does it will be the first to include the next-generation MyLink infotainment system. The device has been designed with the capability of linking up to 10 different devices and is easier to use compared to the previous device according to the company's press release.

"MyLink in the new Impala provides our customers with a total driver experience," said Nina Mital, next-generation MyLink program manager said in the company press release. "With the natural voice recognition, it's like having a conversation with your vehicle."

The new system is the first to use natural language voice recognition which will allow customers to make phone calls, enter driving destinations, play music and control other types of functions just by the customer telling it to do so. Customers will no longer be asked to remember key words or phrases, nor will they have to be looking at the screen for it to activate.

For the first time ever, the infotainment system can store 60 of your favorite radio stations, contacts, driving destinations, songs, and other media. This allows people to store directions that they may use a lot or directions they may only use for family vacations once a year.

"The system is designed to accommodate new features and enhancements," Mital said. "The next-generation MyLink system also will be used in other 2014 model year Chevrolets including upcoming full-size trucks and SUVs and the Corvette."

Interested customers can expect the news system to be a 4.2-inch high-resolution LCD screen, but it will also be available in an eight-inch screen option for a little more money. The press release states that the new infotainment system resembles that of a smartphone of tablet instead of the previous infotainment system, and has icons that are easier to read.

The system will be compatible with Bluetooth so that customers can use their phones and also has a USB connection to use other devices like media players. City-by-city weather reports are also provided to customers to make sure they know the most up-to-date weather conditions. The car also comes with six months of OnStar's Directions and Connections service according to the press release.
