Ford Releases Designs For New 2014 Fiesta Models Before Los Angeles Auto Show Debut, ST Will Be Released This Spring

Ford revealed the new 2014 Fiesta models today ahead of its scheduled release date at the Los Angeles Auto Show sometime later this week. The new Fiesta ST vehicle will be the available at dealerships sometime this coming spring the company announced, while the new Fiesta will be out next fall.

The new ST vehicle will include an 1.6-liter, four-cylinder EcoBoost turbocharged engine that can achieve 197 horsepower and 214 pound-feet of torque according to Ford. The vehicle is also expected to get 34 miles to the gallon and has a six-speed manual transmission as well.

The Fiesta will include a 1-liter, 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine, the smallest ever constructed for a Fiesta vehicle while still being able to produce 123 horsepower. The company states that the car could exceed 50 mph which would be the best for a subcompact vehicle.

"Customers are going to be pleasantly surprised at what the smallest member of the EcoBoost engine family can do," said Joe Bakaj, Ford vice president of Powertrain Engineering to The Detroit Free Press.

Ford presented engineers with a challenge for the new Fiesta models to create a smaller engine while still creating a powerful vehicle. Engineers also had to make sure the car would meet customer expectations as far as fuel economy goes, and it seems Ford is pretty satisfied with the vehicles engineers produced for them.

"We like to compare the refinement of the 1-liter EcoBoost engine with what you would typically experience in a vehicle two or three classes up from Fiesta and Focus," said Andy Delicata, the manager of powertrain noise, vibration and harshness for Ford of Europe to The Detroit Free Press.

The 1.0-liter engine can already be found in the European Ford Focus and the company expects over 30 percent of all Focus models to include the smaller engine by next year. Cars that will have the new engine include the new line of C-Max vehicles, B-Max, and Mondeo. Delicata also stated that the engine will include about 25 percent fewer moving parts.

"Most customers are not going to be thinking about the number of cylinders under the hood when they drive the new 1-liter EcoBoost Fiesta," Bakaj said The Detroit Free Press. "They'll notice an extremely smooth and quiet idle, terrific acceleration accompanied by a sporty sound at high revs, and most importantly outstanding fuel economy."

The cars will offically be on display this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show.
