Just last week, the British sports car maker announced the Lotus Exige Race 380. It's a track-only version of the Exige Sport 380. Today, Lotus announced the track-only Exige Race 380 will become available in the United States this spring.

Naturally, like every other track-ready Lotus hardtops, this one cannot be registered for use on public roads as well. This comes as a big disappointment considering how many fans are willing to throw their money on the table.

The Race 380 has 375 horsepower 3.5-liter supercharged V6 under the hood. It weighs only 2200 pounds and can lap around Lotus' test track faster than any other Exige models to date.

Unfortunately, as mentioned above, Lotus will only sell the Exige Race 380 to U.S. customers as a "track use only vehicle". Still, it is one-up better than the regular Exige which cannot be sold in the United States as it doesn't conform to the country's traffic safety laws.

At least U.S. customers will be able to get their hands on the Race 380 and drive it on track. It was also reported that the Race 380 isn't meant to be registered for road use not only in the U.S. but anywhere in the world as well.

It is a known fact that this isn't the first time Lotus has imported a track-only car to the United States. There were other previous track specials such as the Exige Cup S which have been available in the country before.

The Lotus Exige Race 380 will become available on May 2017. According to reports, the manufacturer suggested retail price will start at $150,000 before taxes, additional options, and importation fees.

Despite what seems to be an expensive price tag, it is actually the most affordable mid-engined factory race car with doors and a windshield. According to the carmaker, the Lotus Exige Race 380 can go from zero to 60 within 3.2 seconds.
