2017 Tokyo Auto Salon News: Honda S660 A Standout, Mini Pickup Concepts Labeled Weird

The Japanese automaker took the 2017 Tokyo Auto Salon event to another level when it featured the Honda S660 Neo Classic prototype with a retro design. On top of which, the company also featured the mini-pickup concept but was labeled as a weird design by car enthusiasts.

Similar to the SEMA event, the 2017 Tokyo Auto Salon was an event where different brands in the automobile market showcased their top models in unique and distinct designs. Much like the Honda S660, its body kit and accessories were developed for the sole purpose of the event.

The Prototype. As reported by Car and Driver, the Honda S660 Neo Classic prototype was one of the most eye-catching models at the show. Although it had been sold in the US market, how the vehicle was featured at the 2017 Tokyo Auto Salon was distinct wherein the Kei-car class model was showcased with features that were only made available in Japan.

In other news, The Daily Star reported that the model had one of the best looks at the event with its turbocharged engine. With 600cc capacity, the short wheelbase of the model was deemed to be impressive since the performance updates were better than the Beat model.

Its unique front and rear-end designs, incorporated round headlights and tapered rear end which made it look similar to the classic 1991 Nissan Figaro. Taking last year's prototype design into the event, such features were bound to be made available in Japan markets soon.

The Downside. Although the previous model received positive feedback from car enthusiasts, the mini pickup concept incorporated into the Honda Acty did not impress the audience. Based on the T880 concept, the body had a unique split-tailgate design but had minimal haul developments. In fact, it was considered to be a poorly modified vehicle for its three-cylinder engine performance level was inferior compared to the Ridgeline, Chevrolet Silverado, or the Ford F-150. In other words, the vehicle lacked the mph that the audience was looking for.

The 2017 Tokyo Auto Salon featured several unique designs from different automakers. One of the standouts was the Honda S660 Neo Classic prototype but lacked the praises for the Honda mini pickup concept on the Acty vehicle.
