Porsche already has experienced in making hybrid cars with the introduction of the 918 Spyder in 2014. The new 2018 Panamera 4E Hybrid is said to be patterned after the bigger Porsche 918 Spyder.

First introduced at the 2017 Paris Motor Show, the Panamera 4E Hybrid is powered by a turbocharged 2.9-Liter V6 gas engine in combination with a 100 kW electric motor and yields 462 hp with 516 pound-feet of torque. As reported by Auto Week, the combined power of the both motors accelerates the car from zero to 60 miles per hour in 4.4 seconds.

When tested in Europe for fuel economy, the Porsche Panamera 4E Hybrid was rated at 96 miles per gallon when using both engines. The US fuel economy ratings for the car have not been released.

The electric motor alone can drive the car at speeds of up to 86 miles per hour at a range of 31 miles when the liquid-cooled battery is fully charged. The battery can be fully charged at a charging station in 3 hours and a standard wall outlet can fully charge the car in 12 hours.

Driving the Porsche Panamera 4E Hybrid gives car users a unique experience that only a hybrid car can provide.  The car can be operated in several modes at the option of the driver.

The default E-Power mode usually starts the car using the electric motor when the battery has power. To run the engine and put electric power in reserve, the driver can switch to E-Hold mode.

The driver can also run the car using the V6 engine while charging the battery by using the E-Charge mode. Another option is the Hybrid mode where the car automatically shifts to the appropriate power required by the actual driving conditions.

To use the Panamera 4E Hybrid at maximum power, the driver can shift to the Sport and Sport Plus modes which turn the car into a high performing racing machine. In these modes, the Panamera 4E Hybrid performs like the Porsche 918 Spyder.
