Featured Car: 2018 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe at Detroit Auto Show

Mercedez-Benz introduced their latest coupe at the Detroit Auto Show. The German car manufacturer just revealed its latest E-Class sedan only last year. Now they revealed another E superstar. The 2018 Mercedes-Benz coupe is a redesigned two-door in the Mercedes E-class roster.

Detroit Auto Show 2017. The 2018 E-Class Coupe is a real head turner. At first glance, it looks like a regular elegant E-Class. Upon closer inspection, its body has a very smooth and uncluttered profile. It is definitely more than just an E-class without its rear doors.

The new Mercedes coupe moves away from the C-Class underpinnings of its predecessor. The previous E coupe was modeled after the C coupe. This now looks more like a regular E sedan, making it a larger model altogether. The overall finished product is very polished and refined.

The new coupe is now five inches taller, three inches wider, and a good inch and a half taller than its predecessor. Measuring exactly 190 inches, it stands right in between the 184.5 inches of a C-Class and the 197.9 inches of an S-Class. Additionally, it now has a 4.4-inch longer wheelbase.

The new coupe also features a new and improved engine that blows the C-Class away. The E300 sedan only has a turbocharged four-cylinder engine that is identical to the C300. The two-door coupe gets an even better engine than its predecessor. It features a standard twin-turbo 3.0-liter V6 engine giving it 329 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque.

While the same engine is available on the E400 coupe, the new E-Class also gets a nine-speed automatic transmission. This replaces the previous seven-speed and greatly improves both acceleration and fuel economy. In addition, the two-door beauty will come in rear-wheel-drive and 4MATIC all-wheel-drive.

The 2018 Mercedez-Benz E-Class Coupe stands lower than the regular sedan. It has optional air suspension as well as a Sport package. The Sport package will add a body kit, AMG wheels, and an AMG steering wheel.

A full AMG version will even be available in the future! It will allegedly be powered by Mercedes-Benz's new line of turbocharged inline-six engines. It will possibly have around 450 horsepower, making it more powerful than AMG's own E43 sedan variant.

The coupe won't just be pretty and fast, it will also be equipped with all the latest tech. It will come with a 12.3-inch central COMAND screen and another optional digital instrument cluster display of the same size. It also has options for navigation and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. There will even be a Drive Pilot semi-autonomous system available.

Mercedes has not announced pricing yet. The car will surely cost a lot more than the E300 sedan, which starts at $53,075.
