Microsoft announced that they will be upgrading some new features to its Windows 10 operating system with the upcoming Creators Update. It will have new features that are capable of downloading new themes and sync work in the cloud across multiple Windows 10 machines.
The company announced that the blockbuster software upgrades it set to be released in April, and now users already have a little idea of what they can expect to see from the free OS update. According to Fast Ring Insider Review, the new OS update will make working between computers very much easier.
The new update was already tested by Microsoft's Windows Defender security team against CVE-2016-7255, a zero-day flaw that was used by the Fancy Bear hackers that were targeting US organizations in October, and also the CVE-2016-7256 that was used for the South Korean targets. The two kernel-level exploits both resulted in the elevation of privileges and were patched in November.
Microsoft explained that with the new Windows 10 Creators update, Cortana can now summon links from the Microsoft Edge browser websites, documents that are in the cloud, other recent works or whenever you transfer to a different computer. For the inbuilt Edge browser, it can now share tabs between apps, that allows to jump from one browser to another very easily and still keep the tabs intact.
In addition, the update will also add new downloadable themes. For users who always changes the background image of their computer, they have now the access to download new themes directly from the Windows Store.
Microsoft Windows Defender ATP Research team said: "We saw how exploit mitigation techniques in Windows 10 Anniversary Update, which was released months before these zero-day attacks, managed to neutralize not only the specific exploits but also their exploit methods." "As a result, these mitigation techniques are significantly reducing attack surfaces that would have been available to future zero-day exploits."
Furthermore, Windows 10 Anniversary update will also prevent the abuse of tagWND strName through validation, making sure that it can't be used for RW primitives. Microsoft is already planning to reveal more exploit mitigation features in the coming Windows 10 Creators Update that will be finished in the spring.
Other new features that include the updates are the Hello facial recognition to speed up logins, Windows Ink capability in Web Notes, ability to run a downloadable link without saving it and a progress bar within notifications. Alos, EMET supports will be ending on July 13, 2018. For Windows 7 users who wants the additional protection, they may need to upgrade first to Windows 10 before Windows 7 extended support expires in 2020.
