BMW has finally revealed the 2018 4-series coupe, gran coupe and convertible. The reveal was a much-awaited one since BMW announced the 3-Series back in May 2015.
After almost two years, the German luxury automaker finally revealed the updates for the 4-Series family. The 4-Series will be comprised of a two-door Coupe, a five-door Grand Coupe, and lastly, a hardtop convertible.
This news was enough to keep fans buzzing. According to reports, the updated 4-Series cars will arrive in North America in 2018MY, very much like the 3-Series sedan, Touring, and the Gran Turismo.
Each Coupe in the 4-series will have their own set of new features. There will also be changes on the chassis, design and as expected, engine updates.
These changes will include brand-new LED headlights, tail lamps, and front fog lamps. Of course, these retain the same shape as before to keep that signature BMW Coupe look.
There will also be modified air intakes on the front bumper, much to everyone's delight. Another thing to look forward to is the different line-specific applications. A redesigned rear apron is also coming.
To complete the look, the 4-series will also have two new exterior paint finishes. These will be named Snapper Rocks Blue and Sunset Orange. As for the wheels, an 18 and 19-inch alloy wheel designs will be available.
Inside, all three models will get a steering wheel upgrade - at least, design-wise. All three will also feature electroplated aluminum and chrome detailing. There will also be double stitching on the instrument panel. Three new trim strips and three new upholstery will also be part of the changes.
BMW's "infotainment" system will also get an upgrade. It will feature a new interface with huge tile-style control pads which can easily be rearranged depending on the driver.
Another cool feature is the optional Multifunctional Instrument Display - which is very much like the ones on Audi's digital cockpit. This MID offers different visualization options for every display.
BMW's 4-Series Coupe and Gran Coupe will also have a stiffer suspension, according to the company. They aim to deliver a "sportier handling without any loss of ride comfort". This will be available to the standard models and those with the optional M Sport and Adaptive suspensions.
BMW also said that every model will get a more conversable steering. In Europe, the 4-Series powertrains will be offered with an extended lineup. This will include four and six-cylinder gasoline and diesel engines which will range from entry-level 150PS with 148hp 418d and 184PS (181hp) 420i to the 313PS (309hp) 435d and 326PS (322hp) 440i.
All in all, there will be a total of twelve different models available with different options such as the xDrive. The 435d will also come with an all-wheel drive system as the basic standard. It is expected that the North American range for the BMW 4-Series coupe will be the same.
