Peterhansel nicknamed “Mr. Dakar” is now the most successful competitor with seven wins in the car category to go with his six bike triumphs. At Thursday’s Chilecito-San Juan stage, he had a lead of six minutes over Loeb.
According to Left Lane News this win is Peugeot's 6th and Stephane Peterhansel’s 13th. Peugeot has won the top three spots in the 2017 edition of the grueling Dakar Rally. Dakar Rally is a rally raid organized every year by the Amaury Sport Organisation. The French pilot Stephane Peterhansel showed once again why he got the nickname Mr. Dakar. Stephane finished the race a little over five minutes ahead of his teammate and former World Rally Championship (WRC) champion Sebastien Loeb. The third place went to Cyril Despres who crossed the line 33 minutes after Stephane. Carlos Sainz drove the fourth car and he was forced to abandon the race due to rolling several times during the fourth stage. The Dakar Rally hasn’t been held in Africa since 2007 due to safety concerns. This year it was held in Asuncion, the capital of Paraguay and it ended in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
The 2017 Dakar Rally race through three countries and covered 8,823 km. Peugeot is the big winner in the automotive category as they managed to finish in the top three positions in the category. Stephane Peterhansel, Sebastian Loeb, and Cyril Despres are all co-drivers of the Peugeot Total Team and all of them have a vast experience in the world of motorsport, as Auto Evolution reported. Peugeot appreciates the work of its support team which includes 88 members who helped the drivers to stay in top form through the 12 legs of the 2017 Dakar. Peugeot’s crew scored nine out of ten stage wins which have a total of 4,093 km out of the entire rally.
