The Takata airbag scandal has Ford recalling more than 816,000 of its vehicles just in North America alone. This batch is just part of a recall of millions of vehicles involving other car manufacturers worldwide.

Recalled Ford Vehicles. The problem Ford faces is the same with any other car manufacturer affected by the Takata airbag scandal. The problem is faulty airbags that can potentially explode and expel shrapnel and may cause injury or even death. Millions of other vehicles are affected, specifically 5.7 million involving 17 car manufacturers to date. Out of the 816,000 vehicles that Ford is recalling, 654,695 are in the US and 161,174 in Canda.

The Ford Takata recall list of affected vehicles include 2005-2009 and 2012 models of the Mustang, 2006-2009 and 2012 models of the Ford Fusion, Lincoln Zephyr and MKZ, and 2007-2009 models of Ford Ranger and Edge. The 2006-2009 Mercury Milan and the 2005-2006 Ford GT are also included. All of the Ford vehicles in this batch have faulty front passenger airbags made by Takata that need to be replaced.

There have been 17 known deaths and over 100 injuries linked to the faulty airbags. Ford has stated that it is not aware of any deaths or injuries involving their vehicles.

Ford will be contacting affected car owners soon to have their airbags replaced at the nearest dealer at no cost at all. It is highly recommended to wait for Ford's contact to figure out which dealer to go to and get a replacement.

Owners who are wondering if their car is one of the affected Ford vehicles need not fret. One can log on to a recall-specific Ford website with the car's vehicle identification number (VIN). Owners are advised to use the recall reference number 17S01 when doing so. Owners may also log on to https://www.nhtsa.gov/recalls.
