When Ford introduced the 2016 Mustang GT350, Henrik Fisker, and Galpin Auto Sports also did reveal and show off their new super-Mustang creation, the Rocket. The car is said to be the first in a series of low-volume Mustangs that is set for production by GAS.
The car was revealed at the 2014 Los Angeles auto show, the car got a lot of appreciation and was chosen for the opening scene of Amazon's first episode "The Grand Tour." The car is still in production even though it's now being made by VLF and now a part of VLF lineup. The car was even renamed as the VLF Rocket V8.
GAS president, Beau Boeckman, and Fisker started working on the project right after the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance way back in August of 2014. Both of them carefully planned the vehicles design and what performance upgrades will be put into the car.
They designed the super mustang with a reworked body equipped with a carbon fibered new front end, hood and wider fenders. The car is installed with a Mustang GT's original 5.0-liter V-8 with a Whipple supercharger giving the car an impressive 725 horsepower. GAS and Fisker also added an upgraded suspension giving the car fully adjustable shocks and large 21-inch wheels with Pirelli-Zero rubber.
According to some reports, VLF will be designating dealers in different states and hopefully in other countries these coming years. Galpin boss, Beau Boeckmann, stated that the reason that they took over of the project is that they have seen a demand for the car outside the Unites States.
He said: "With Henrik Fisker as a partner at VLF, the company became a natural fit, as they could achieve fast volumes of limited production." Meanwhile, a few design details that the Rocket has are borrowed from the 1960s and 1970s pony cars. But in particular, it got its design from the 1968 Shelby GT500.
The company is yet to confirm how much will the Rocket V8 cost but just expect a starting price of around $120,000. VLF will initially release a couple Rocket V8 but they are already planning to also produce a convertible V8 soon.
