History. The development of the iconic sports car first began in 1985. This was only a few months after the Mimran brothers purchased the company following its bankruptcy in 1978. The Mimrans invested a sizable amount to the expansion of the company resulting finally in a successor to the Countach.
The sports car took over four years to complete. The finished product was finally revealed to the public in January 1990. The Diablo, named after a bull like all Lamborghinis, is the Spanish word for devil. The sports car was named after a bull named Diablo that was fought by famed matador "El Chicorro" in the 1860s.
The production of the Diablo ended in 2001. Only around 2,900 units of this beast on wheels was ever built. The Diablo was then replaced by the Murcielago supercar.
Features. The 2001 Lamborghini is arguably the best of all the Diablos. The 2001 Lamborghini Diablo VT 6.0 is the four-wheel-drive version and perhaps the most powerful.
It has a huge and overpowering V-12 engine. Its stroke is 0.16 inches, has a lightened crankshaft, uses stronger but lighter titanium connecting rods, and has an updated 32-bit engine control system.
The engine's peak output is truly magnificent. It has 543 horsepower at 7100 RPM and 457 lb-ft of torque at 5800 RPM.
The Lamborghini Diablo's rear tires are a Z-rated Pirelli P Zeros. They are good for more than 200 MPH and are 13.2 inches wide. 28 percent of the engine's torque is routed to the front wheels so that the rear wheels will not be overloaded.
The Lamborghini sports car is not for new and inexperienced drivers. For someone who does not know what they are doing, they will easily wreck this car and get a huge repair bill. Flawless wheel spinning and drop-clutch expertise is something the driver should be adept in.
The Italian sports car debuted for approximately $300,000. This is for the Diablo VT. This beautiful beast may still be available through car collectors and other private collections at around $200,000.
