Samsung had just released the Android 7.0 Nougat update for the Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge two days ago. This development invalidates previous speculations that the flagship phones will jump straight to getting the 7.1.1 Nougat. The update will be available on unlocked models.

The handsets are both receiving the NDRD90M.G935FXXU1DPLT software, which will update the mobile OS from 6.0.1 Marshmallow to 7.0 Nougat. Samsung previously hinted at going straight to the most recent software, which may find itself in other models.

The South Korean tech giant spent more than six months before it updated the mobile OS. Working on another six months for another update is nonsense since Nougat's next version will be deployed in July this year. But this is just mere speculation, so let's wait for an official response from Samsung.

The software will only occupy 214MB of a smartphone's memory. One of its notable features is Google's security update for January. The new version of the Android also offers bundled notifications, direct replies, new emojis, quick settings, multi-window, and always-on display features.

Android Nougat 6.0.1 was first deployed in August 2016. A beta version of the Nougat 7.0 became available for Galaxy users three months after. Samsung is offering guidance on how to install the mobile OS' latest version of the S7 and S7 Edge. The handsets' owners need to check their settings for a new software update.

Update for carrier models of the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge will follow. As of this writing, two carriers have confirmed updates including the U.S.' Verizon and Australia's Vodafone. More detailed instructions on downloading Nougat 7.0.1 can be accessed here.
