The Volkswagen XL1 Hybrid was tested for the first time and the consumer decided to acquire the model in a heartbeat as it was deemed the greatest modern Volkswagen model to date that did not have its competitors' features installed. What made the model standout among the rest?

The Futuristic Model

When the Volkswagen XL1 Hybrid was first developed by the German automaker, car enthusiasts thought that it was the most futuristic concept out there. In fact, the spaceship-like diesel hybrid was pegged as greatest modern Volkswagen to have entered the market, reported Jalopnik.

 The Specs

Per Volkswagen, the model is a fuel-efficient car which was first unveiled at the Qatar Motor Show way back in 2011. It was just recently that the company announced that the Volkswagen XL1 is under production and would create 200 samples initially.

It has construction techniques so advance that the plug-in drivetrain was lodged to have the most innovative packaging. It could generate 313mpg on the combined cycle with only 21g/km of carbon emissions. It is powered by a compact 800 cc TDI and a two-cylinder diesel engine that could develop 48PS. Furthermore, its seven-speed DSG gearbox can work independently of the TDI engine or in tandem with while accelerating.

The Volkswagen XL1 can go 62mph in a matter of 11.9sec, has electronically limited top speed of 99mph, has its own plug-in hybrid system, can cover a distance of up to 15km, and has lightweight features such as the Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer and the Resin Transfer Moulding process.
