Everything Possible About The 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500

The 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 is the newest Mustang from Ford. How much do enthusiasts know about it aside from it being expected to go head-to-head with Chevrolet's supercharged Camaro ZL1?

The 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. The Shelby GT350 was introduced in 2013. Now that the GT350 is available for sale, this leaves the Shelby GT500 as the next generation Mustang for Ford to reveal.

There are speculations that the next Mustang will not be a complete redesign. It will most likely be just an updated version of the Shelby GT350 with Ford focusing on performance tweaks and refinements. Enthusiasts won't see a completely redesigned Mustang for years.

The Shelby GT350 and GT350R are currently the only Mustangs equipped with Ford's magnetorheological dampers. One should expect to see magnetorheological dampers on the GT500, too, to compete with the cheap Camaro SS which is equipped with Chevy's MagneRide suspension.

Analysts say that the GT500 will most likely have a dual-mode sports exhaust which the Camaro SS also has. Equipping the GT500 with this along with magnetorheological dampers is a good way to close in on the competition.

The V6 doesn't come close to Ford's turbocharged four-cylinder engine. The GT500 could do away with the V6 engine and sport a twin-turbocharged V8 instead.

Ford developed a new 10-speed automatic transmission for the F-150 Raptor. This transmission could possibly show up in the GT500. The Camaro ZL1 has the same type of transmission so putting this on the GT500 is only the wiser.

Exterior updates on the 2018 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 could be minimal. What consumers should expect are the exciting developments under the hood. Mustang's Shelby GT500 could possibly debut early this year and go on sale in the latter half of 2017. With all the new possible features, upgrades, and refinements, the GT500 could well retail north of US$65,000.
