The craziest creation "yet" of The Grand Tour had just been unveiled on its latest episode. Jeremy Clarkson was able to bring together a Mercedes SL with a Land Rover Discovery and presented it to the rest of the gang. Jeremy Clarkson named it 'The Excellent' and took it to an auction.
TopGear, where the trio Clarkson, Mays and Hammond formerly belonged to, was famous for their experimental cars which are sometimes ambitious like the amphibian vehicles that can withstand any type of environment and sometimes rubbish like the stretch limo made out of a Fiat Panda. Now, the trio is at it again with their new show at Amazon and this time, Clarkson successfully united the engine of the Land Rover Discovery to the bodywork of one of the glamorous Mercedes SL, as reported by CarBuzz.
The goal of Clarkson during The Grand Tour episode 9 was to create a true luxury sports SUV using an old Land Rover Discovery. This led to a scene where the presenter can be seen on the test track of the program with a vehicle that has no bodywork. At this point, they decided to put on a body to legalize the test. So they opted for a 1978 MGB roadster in yellow.
After a failed attempt to take it off-road, the MGB was scrapped. At this point, Clarkson decided to incorporate the chassis and engine of the Land Rover with the body of an elegant 1980 Mercedes SL. It was there that 'The Excellent' was born. At this point, the three presenters showed it to the Chelsea FC players and tried to sell at an auction. The car didn't do well although Clarkson had already put a reserve of 100,000 pounds which is about $120,000 dollars. The car only received a maximum offer of 4,000 pounds or about $4,600. The Grand Tour trio decided not to sell it then.
The Grand Tour's next episode will return to the United States where Jeremy Clarkson is said to make fun of the new US President Elect Donald Trump, according to TheSun. While waiting for the next episode on Friday, watch 'The Excellent' at the video below.
