Finally, after years of speculations, Mercedes-Benz confirmed the Mercedes-Maybach SUV. The global automobile manufacturer's CEO, Dr. Dieter Zetsche, confirmed this at the 2017 Detroit Motor Show.
In the said event, Dr. Zetsche revealed to the press, "I'd like to say you will be seeing it, but I'll leave it at that." This may be a vague statement, however, it is a given fact that CEO's usually don't release statements unless a project is already underway.
With this statement, millions of fans around the world are buzzing with excitement. After all, the Mercedes-Benz Maybach SUV will be a top-of-the-line vehicle. Only a vague statement from the company's CEO was released, yet several automobile journalists and experts are already comparing it to the Bentley Bentayga.
Sports Utility Vehicles are not uncommon for Mercedes-Benz. The company had a wide range of SUVs released. However, the Maybach is expected to trump them all.
In a report by Auto Express, it was revealed that the Maybach will have its own signature models according to Mercedes chief designer Gorden Wagoner. According to Wagoner, the Maybach will be the epitome of "modern luxury". In the report, Wagoner told the website, "Mercedes Maybach stands very much for modern luxury." He added, "where other super-luxury competitors take a more traditional approach. The difference is that modern luxury is a bit more tasteful."
Aside from these statements, there are still no confirmed details about the Maybach. However, it is expected to go against the likes of the Bentley Bentayga and Rolls-Royce Cullinan.
Mercedes' Marketing Vice President also hinted the electrification of the SUV. "We will, I call it, begin 'EQ-ing' our cars. We will also see electric cars from Mercedes-AMG and Mercedes-Maybach, so that's what we are thinking. Electrification will, of course, hit every car, and we have to be prepared. There will come a point in time where the complete portfolio will become electrified - whether it's plug-in hybrid or pure electric engines", Thiemer said in a statement.
