Recently, Samsung has unveiled their battery that can provide a complete driving range up to 600 kilometers for just 20 minutes of charging. The integrated battery module has the concept of 10% component units decreased and weight which is way different from the models currently produced.

"This means that only 20 minutes in the highway rest area will be enough for a battery to be charged, eliminating the range anxiety of electric vehicle drivers," Samsung SDI stated during a press release. This fast charging development is obviously making a quick advancement in technology.

Samsung's technology of battery could change the common negative points for electric vehicles such as the availability of charging stations and the charging frequency. The module also shows a high safety level.

To add fuel to the competition, Tesla who leads in the production of electric cars promised a range of 265 miles for Model S and 250 miles for Model X. If these were compared to Samsung's 310 miles in 20 minutes of charging, Tesla now has the volume to retrieve 170 miles range in half an hour.  A 20-minute charge will offer the battery 80 percent capacity load which allowing it for a 500 km range. 

In addition, Faraday Future a fellow manufacturer of the electric vehicle is said to have developed a cell that lasts to 378 miles, but their demonstration at CES was said to be less than convincing. The Korean conglomerate Samsung may face a heavy competition in the battery industry as Tesla and Panasonic are joining forces on cell technology and have come up with the production of 2,170 cells to be utilized by Powerwall 2, Powerpack 2, and Model 3 car.

With the impressive numbers given by Samsung, this is a major improvement offer to the current energy storage technologies. There will be a mass production of the cell in 2021 which is just in time to power autonomous car's first batch.
