Lightning McQueen Arrives At Detroit Auto Show With New 'Cars 3' Trailer

Lightning McQueen made a surprised appearance between Volvo's and Hyundai's showcase at the 2017 Detroit Auto Show. The five-time 'Piston Cup' champion dropped by to promote 'Cars 3' and unveiled the extended trailer of the film which will be in theaters in July.

A real-scale replica of Lightning McQueen, Disney/Pixar’s protagonist of the 'Cars' franchise was shown painted in red, with a mythical lightning flashing through the body and the number 95. Next to it is John Lasseter, creator of the franchise, that has declared himself a lover of cars and admitted that it is his own idea to once again choose the Auto Show to unveil the first extended trailer of the film.

The extended trailer gives more clues about the upcoming movie. It begins with a spectacular crash by McQueen and this accident seemed to end his career. This then caused the meteoric rise of a new competitor which is superior in performance and uses carbon fiber and light materials in its body.

Cars 3 will be released in July 2017. This time, Lightning McQueen will be a veteran runner, a five-time Piston Cup champion, who will face the new generations led by Jackson Storm. According to Pixar and reported by AutomobileMag, under Mcqueen's hood is a V-8 engine with 750 horsepower, can hit 0-60 mph in 4 seconds, and has a top speed of 198 mph. While his new challenger will have a V8 that can produce 850 hp, can hit 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds, and has a top speed of 214 mph.

After retiring to Radiator Springs, McQueen ignores the advice of his mechanic and other runners knowing that whatever he does, he will never be as fast as its new rival. Lightning McQueen's main support will be Cruz Ramírez, its new trainer who told the former champion that he won't really be as fast as Storm, however, he can race smarter, according to AutoBlog.

Cars 3 is a classic tale of failure and depression turned into hope and probable victory. Watch Lightning Mcqueen at the Detroit Auto Show.
