During the first press day of the 2017 Detroit Motor Show, Mercedes-AMG revealed new data about the Mercedes-AMG Hypercar to be called the 'Project One'. The hybrid all-wheel drive hypercar with a V6 turbocharged Formula 1 engine will be presented in September during the 2017 IAA Frankfurt. Only 300 units will be manufactured. Check out all the details here.
The Mercedes-AMG Hypercar will be presented on September 2017 after which the brand will begin the development with the first functional prototypes. Its commercial launch will then happen in early 2018 and the deliveries to the first customers will be in late 2018 or early 2019, according to TopGear.
Speaking of customers, Mercedes announced that there will only be 300 units to be manufactured so those who want to get their hands on the Mercedes-AMG Project One should wait for the sales opening. The price is still unknown as of the moment but it is expected to be around $2.5 million considering that the technology the car will use will be derived from Formula 1 cars, according to Jalopnik.
In addition, AMG CEO Tobias Moers confirmed in Detroit that the Mercedes-AMG Hypercar will have the same V6 1.6 - liter hybrid that the brand uses in its F1 cars and will output at least 1000hp. He also revealed that Electric motors would pair the front wheels, so people already know that the car will have full traction while electric motors are operational. Mercedes-AMG Project One will also have a pure electric mode, able to travel up to 25 kilometers powered only by the front wheels.
Moers also confirmed that the Mercedes-AMG Hypercar is still at a very early stage and they've only tested the engine running at low revs and in idle mode. He also said that the model would have a vertical fin-style LMP1 and would be equipped with active aerodynamics systems. At the moment, it is also unclear where it will be manufactured and is still being discussed internally. Check out the presentation of Mercedes-AMG Project One at the video below.
