Car enthusiasts are circling the 2017 Detroit Auto Show, waiting for the announcement of the North American Car and Truck of the Year awards. Green car enthusiasts were elated when the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV was awarded the 2017 Car of the Year honors.

As posted by Green Car Reports, the Car, Truck and Utility Vehicle are the three categories for this year's awards. Few expected that the Bolt EV will win the car category award.

For those following developments in the car industry, the win was not really that surprising since the 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV has previously won many awards. Winning the North American Car of the Year honors at Detroit is the most prestigious accolade the car can get,

Around 800,000 people and 5,000 journalists are expected to be present at the Detroit Auto show. Many are vigilantly watching for the results of the car awards as they view the 750 vehicles and other car technologies displayed in the show from January 8 to 22, 2017.

The 2017 Chevrolet Bolt EV hatchback is priced at $37,500 and the first electric car rated with more than 200-mile range.  The Volvo S90 and the Genesis C90 were the other contenders for the award.

The VolvoS90 is made by the Chinese owned Swedish company and rumored to be entered in the luxury car category.  The Genesis C90 is a luxury category car manufactured by Hyundai.

Another award category eagerly watched by green car enthusiasts is the 2017 North America Utility Vehicle of the Year award. The coveted award was won by 2017 Chrysler Pacifica which is a hybrid car with electric car rating of the 33 miles.  It is the only minivan with eight passengers that can operate with electric power.

The Truck of the Year category had three contenders that were all pickup trucks. The smaller Honda Ridgeline won over the Ford F-Series Super Duty giant pickup and the equally large Nissan Titan.  Green car enthusiasts are celebrating the victory of green cars in Detroit.
