2016 Ford F-150 Review: America's Favorite Pickup Truck

The Ford F-150 full-size pickup truck is the best-selling pickup and car in America. It has a legendary aluminum body and bed and has earned several awards. It is diverse, fuel efficient, and truly revolutionary.

Pros and Features. The F-150 has a diverse four-engine lineup, two of which are efficient and powerful turbocharged V6 options. It has an all-aluminum body. This allows for maximum payload and tow ratings.

It has a long list of available convenience, safety, and comfort features. All models have antilock brakes and stability and traction control. They also have full-length side curtain airbags, trailer sway control, and automatic crash notification via paired cell phones. The pickup truck is also best-in-class for its crash-test scores.

The F-150 is very agile and easier to drive than most pickups. It has good power from its engine and accelerates and brakes with ease.

Cons. The all-aluminum body panels are more expensive to repair than steel. The pickup is stiff to ride when its bed is empty. The EcoBoost V-6 version's price falls in the luxury-car range.

What's New? The 2016 Ford F-150 underwent a major redesign. The all-new pickup truck returns with several notable improvements. The new Sync 3 interface replaced the previous MyFord Touch system. It is now easier to use and responds quicker.

Models. The F-150 comes in three cab styles: regular, Supercab (extended), and Supercrew (crew cab). The regular cab and the Supercab styles come in a 6.5 or 8-foot bed. The Supercrew style is available in a 5.5 or 6.5-foot bed only.

There are six models to choose from: XL, XLT, Lariat, King Ranch, Platinum and a new Limited edition. The standard features for the base model XL include 17-inch wheels, automatic headlights, and a trailer sway control. It also has pre-wired trailer connections, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, vinyl flooring, and Bluetooth. XL allows you to get different packages and add-ons for off-road and tech features.

The XLT model incorporates the XL's optional 101A package with alloy wheels, chrome bumpers, carpeting, and other comfort improvements. It also has several options and packages for add-ons.

The Lariat, King Ranch, and Platinum models offer more technological improvements including front bucket seats, bigger wheels, LED headlights and taillights, and other advancements. The Limited model has the complete works and other unique styling details.

Pricing. The Basic XL 2dr Regular Cab 6.5 ft SB (3.5L 6cyl 6A) has an MSRP of $29,790. The Well-Equipped XL 2dr Regular Cab 8 ft LB (3.5L 6cyl 6A) has an MSRP of $30,090. The Fully-Loaded XLT 2dr Regular Cab 6.5 ft SB (3.5L 6cyl 6A) has an MSRP of $35,790. The 2016 Ford F-150 SuperCrew 5.0L 4x4 goes up to $57,240.
