F1 News: Paddy Lowe Leaves Mercedes Team

Paddy Lowe is no longer the executive technical director for the F1 Mercedes team as he had been on leave pending his removal from the group. It was even speculated that the 54-year-old expert would be joining the Williams team instead. Are the reports true?

The F1 Mercedes team was able to land three consecutive double F1 world championship awards thanks to Lowe. However, the former executive technical director of the team and Mercedes had trouble landing a contract deal that the expert has decided to end his relationship with the German carmaker.

Mercedes on Lowe's Departure

As reported by Auto Sport, Toto Wolff, the motorsport boss of the Mercedes team, announced that the winning team had experienced success not because of a single person's input but the technical capability of the organization as a whole. Although Lowe was deemed to have a significant input in their wins, the team has another person to fill Lowe's role to continue the success of the company in the F1 field from 2017 and beyond.

Mercedes likewise announced that senior directors Aldo Costa, Mark Ellis, Rob Thomas, and Geoff Willis will be the ones to maneuver the technological organization of the team after Lowe leaves his post. Furthermore, it was also announced that updates on technicalities would be announced in due course. However, it was already established that Ferrari technical director, James Allison, would be the one to fill Lowe's shoes.

Lowe In Joining Williams

In other news, BBC Sport reported that Lowe is set on heading the technical group of Williams along with the F1 team. The final agreement is yet to be finalized but it was speculated that Toro Rosso and technical director James Key would join Lowe once contractual matters are concluded.

With respect to Paddy Lowe's position on him leaving the F1 Mercedes Team, he indicated that he had enjoyed his time as part of the Mercedes family, wished them well, and is looking forward to tackle new challenges. Therefore, he would still continue to manifest his talents in the F1 world. Will his involvement with the Williams team be finalized soon?
