Dell just introduced the world's first wireless charging 2-in1 laptop, named as the Latitude 7285, at the 2017 CES that was held in Las Vegas on Thursday. This will be the laptop for consumers who wanted a wireless charging feature. The hybrid laptop is known as the ultimate "no wires" experience, wirelessly charging through its keyboard.
Dell announced that they will start selling the laptop in June and it will be equipped with an embedded wireless receiving coil that is based on the magnetic resonance technology from WiTricity. Dell will be selling a WiTricity charging pad for their new developed laptop, which will be completely cordless.
Neil Hand, Dell's vice president of Product Strategy and Innovation, said in a statement, "Innovative IT teams see a future with no wires, including wireless power, as a key step toward improvements in mobility and convenience. WiTricity wireless charging technology makes it possible to integrate magnetic resonance in today's thin, iconic computing products."
The new Latitude 7285 laptop was created to compete with other 2-in-1 laptops, like the Microsoft Surface and the Lenovo Flex. According to CNET reports, the tablet portion of the Latitude version connects directly to a much traditional keyboard dock, so when the two parts are together, it looks much similar to a traditional laptop than a 2-in-1.
Furthermore, Dell revealed several of their new products at CES 2017, which includes the Dell UltraSharp 32 Ultra HD 8K Monitor, and the Dell Precision 7720 VR-ready mobile workstation. They also introduced an upgraded line of XPS, Alienware consumer devices and OptiPlex, Inspiron, Precision commercial products and Latitude.
The 2-in-1 laptops will be powered by Intel's new Kaby Lake processors and will have a Sharp IGZO display equipped with 3K resolution. The company will be offering many different keyboard dock options. The company says that they will be revealing more information about the device and its wireless charging feature at the DELL EMC World 2017 event in May.
A research firm IHS has envisioned that wireless charging technology will make a whopping $8.5 billion in revenue by 2018. That's 40 times the revenue that was made in 2013. Dell didn't yet announced the pricing details nor the specific release date for the Latitude 7285 2-in-1 but expect it to cost a lot.
