NAIAS 2017: Fully Naked 2017 Ford GT Spotted In Detroit

A new Ford GT was one of the featured cars presented by Ford Performance at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show. Two years after, a second-gen GT is roaming the streets of Detroit, attracting the attention of those who have spotted the hypercar.

One of the lucky ones to see the velocity animal was Redditor Emulsifide who managed to take respectable photographs while driving a 2011 Taurus SHO. He shared his impressions on the exteriors of the twin-turbo V6 missile.

The Blue Oval fan describes the 2017 Ford GT as a subdued version of the ones running in Le Mans this year. He finds the vehicle as very tasteful. He considers the car as a hypercar based on the sound it produces when running.

The 2017 Ford GT was bearing manufacture plates when seen by the Redditor. What sets it apart from other Ford GTs is that it is camo-free. However, Emulsifide did not hide his little disappointment with the car, which he said is not what one would expect from a Ford.

While the 2017 Ford GT is ahead of its predecessors in terms of performance, its fuel economy qualifies for the gas guzzler tax of $2,600. The speed demon falls short of its mid-range rivals such as the McLaren 570S, Ferrari GTB, and Lamborghini Huracan.

The new GT received an overall EPA rating of 14 mpg, with an 11 mpg rating for the city and 18 mpg for the highway. Its competitors all managed to top 20 mpg on the highway. The Lambo and the McLaren had 21 and 23 mpg, respectively.

Multimatic is assembling the 2017 Ford GT in Canada for Ford Performance. The first units of the 600-plus horsepower halo cars will be delivered soon. A civilian-plate Ford GT might roam the streets soon.

The video below shows a 2017 Ford GT  starting up and driving to its trailer at the 2016 Concours d'elegance of America, held at St. John's. Share your thoughts on the article in the comment section.
