The Volkswagen Atlas will become the largest sport utility vehicle (SUV) to be produced by the German company at its plant in Chattanoga, Tennessee. It is a full-sized SUV produced on the VW Group MQB platform powered by either the traverse-mounted 4-cylinder engine or the bigger Volkswagen V6 engine.

According to Top Speed, the VW Atlas model was first conceived in 2013, previewed by CrossBlue Concept and rumored to be manufactured after its debut at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show.  It has the same VW MQB platform with the smaller Skoda Kodiaq SUV and of the same size as the more elegant AudiQ7.

This model has not reached the dealers' display centers in 2016 but is planned to be on sale by springtime of 2017. Atlas will be sold as Volkswagen Teramont in China as soon as production begins in Shanghai.

Volkswagen has started production plans for another version of the Atlas called the R-Line. This model is practically the same as the Volkswagen Atlas but with external features that differentiates it from the Atlas. The design of the R-Line is the same as the SE and SLE Atlas with no changes in engine specifications.

The R-Line is designed to be sporty in appearance with a revised front bumper attached to the lower section of the body painted glossy black with chrome slats. The under chassis protection structures have been revised giving the R-Line a more rugged look. An R-Line insignia adorns the wide front grille.  

At the back of the car, the diffuser type panel has been replaced by a modified panel also painted glossy black to match the front bumper.  The car uses the 20-inch aluminum alloy twin spoke design with body-colored side skirts.

Volkswagen has recently announced that the Atlas R-Line will be introduced at the ongoing International Show in Detroit along with the 2018 Atlas model. There have been no announcements of the prices of these big Volkswagen Sport Utility Vehicles which will hit the market by the end of March this year.
