2018 is still a year away and yet sports car enthusiasts are excited to see the new V8 engine of General Motor's 2018 Chevrolet Corvette. On it's release, sales are expected to increase. 

Dealer documents obtained by online media that the new 2018 Chevrolet Corvette will feature a new DOHC engine called "LT5". The LT5 is believed to be molded after the first LT5 engine manufactured for the Corvette ZR-1 when it was released in 1990-1995. Since then, the Chevy's sports car has been using V8 engines with pushrod valve actuation instead of one with a DOHC layout. If the documents found by online media are accurate, the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette LT5 would have a supercharged 6.2 liter gasoline capacity operating on eight cylinders, variable valve timing and direct injection, according to MSN.com.

Car enthusiasts are still unsure which Corvette sports car model would receive the LT5 engine. It is common knowledge that two Corvette models are slated to be launched in 2017. The first one is the current Chevrolet Corvette ZR1. Eyewitness recounts seeing a new generation C7 Corvette ZR1 having a road test at an undisclosed location. 

On the other hand, media such as Motorauthority.com  has reported that Chevrolet has been building a new mid-engined Chevrolet Corvette to address limitations of its front-engine design. The Corvette Z06 has been plagued with "overheating issues" since it was launched this year, and so reports of an upgraded model to launch in 2017 with more vents to address the overheating issue has surfaced. With the Z06's L4 engine running already at 650 hp, we can expect the 2018 Corvette or C8 as it is fondly called, to run at more than 700 hp.

If it pushes through, the new LT5 engine for the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette will just be the second one to operate without pushrod technology. The first Corvette to use pushrod technology was built in 1990-1995 for the fourth generation C4 Corvette.
