Intel has finally released its Kay Lake CPUs, which include models for desktops and gaming laptops. The i7-7700K is part of the company's low-power U-series chips and comes with Intel's Z270 chipset. Let's see how the seventh-generation Intel Core fares in the gaming department.
Yahoo News used an MSI Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon motherboard to test the gaming performance of the Intel Core i7-7700K. The test setup's components also included 2 x 8GB G.Skill Ripjaws V DDR4-3000, ASUS ROG Strix GeForce GTX 1080 Gaming, Kingston HyperX 3K 240GB SATA 6Gbps solid state drive, and Windows 10 Home.
The i7-7700K Kaby Lake CPU was not expected to do well since it just an iterative update or a refreshed Skylake architecture. Modest results were expected compared to the Intel Core i7-6700K. There is nothing new the i7-7700K can offer, according to PC Games.
The benchmark test revealed that the Intel Core i7-7700K was around nine percent faster than the i7-6700K. This is really disappointing for gaming fans who are expecting much-improved processing power. That makes the new chip really boring.
Again, the Kaby Lake chip offered less exciting performance differential during the 3D graphics test. The i7-7700K only gave not so impressive results based on actual real-world application.
Intel fans are hoping that the i7-7700K will boast of boosted overclocking performance. The Kaby Lake chip is a dismal processor that is incapable of pushing things any further.
The Intel Core i7-7700K is designed with a 4.24GHz base and can deliver a 4.5GHz Turbo frequency. Though the processor is quicker in straight CPU benchmarks, the Kaby Lake chip fails miserably in systems-wide tests.
In nutshell, the Intel Core i7-7700K is disappointing, boring, and not impressive as it was touted. In a few months, AMD will launch the Ryzen CPU whose leaked benchmark tests pose a big threat to Intel. Don't buy the Intel chip yet. AMD may drop a bomb that will shake Intel's supremacy as top gaming processor maker.
