Texas Auto Writers Association presented the 2013 Ram 1500 with the prestigious "Truck of Texas" award at the Texas Truck Rodeo this past weekend.
Earlier in the award ceremony, The Ram 1500 won "Full-Size Pickup Truck of Texas" and "Luxury Pickup Truck of Texas" for the Laramie Longhorn model. The new Ram series also took home the award for "Truck Line of Texas."
The Ram pickup features a new 3.6-liter V6 that boasts 42 percent more power, improved fuel economy, and comes available with an eight-speed automatic transmission according to the Chrysler press release. The sticker price for the vehicle starts at $23,585.
"Texas is Ram's biggest market and we've worked relentlessly to build powerful trucks with best-in-class fuel economy and capability for our customers," said Fred Diaz, president and CEO of Ram in the press release. "The pickup market is fiercely competitive and we are proud the Texas Auto Writers have awarded Ram trucks with these coveted titles."
The Ford F-150 won the "Truck of Texas" award in 2011.
Chrysler also has to be proud of the accomplishments the Jeep Grand Cherokee won at the award ceremony as well.
For the third year in a row, Jeep Grand Cherokee won the "SUV of Texas" award. The Grand Cherokee, which is the most awarded SUV in history, also took "Sport Utility of Texas" and won best "Full-Size SUV of Texas".
"We are absolutely delighted that Jeep has won the prestigious 'SUV of Texas' award three straight years," said Mike Manley, President and CEO of Jeep Brand, Chrysler Group LLC at a press conference after the award ceremony. "Even more impressive is the fact that Jeep vehicles came out on top in every category we entered."
Over 60 SUVs, pickups, and crossover cars entered this year's event. Awards were determined by 50 Texas Auto Writers over the course of two days who actually got to test drive every vehicle that was entered.
