Chrysler Group LLC has announced that federal safety regulators will be investigating stalling issues occurring in Jeep Patriot SUVs.

Over a dozen people have filed complaints against the Jeep stating that their cars have been stalling without warning while going 65 mph or faster.

One crash has been reported so far which injured two people.

The complaints affect over 112,000 Patriot vehicles made in 2011 and 2011 sold in the U.S. If the federal safety regulators deem through the preliminary evaluation that the problem is serious enough, they may force Chrysler to recall the vehicles. Over 18,000 have been sold in Canada.

"Chrysler Group is cooperating fully with NHTSA in this preliminary investigation," the company said in a press statement on Friday. "The 2011-2012 Jeep Patriot meets or exceeds all applicable federal safety standards and has an excellent safety record."

The SUV had previously had an excellent safety record according to The Washington Post.  Sales for the vehicle were up 15 percent in September according to Yahoo, but the problem could cause that number to go back down.

The SUVs were advertised to interested buyers as the best priced SUV in the U.S. at a starting price of a little over15, 000. You can find used Patriots for under $13,000 now.

The vehicles feature a 2.4 liter, 4-clyinder engine, manual transmission, and 4-wheel drive according to Chrysler.
