There have been recent speculations that Microsoft has assigned its Surface Team a project surrounding smartwatches. If this is at all true, then we should be expecting a Microsoft Surface smartwatch any time this 2017.

Microsoft ending Band and possibly shifting towards Surface Watch. It has been hinted before that Microsoft will not be continuing with its Microsoft Band, a smart band that acts as both a smartwatch and an activity and fitness tracker. The Microsoft Band has been struggling against the likes of the Apple Watch and the Samsung Gear since its launch in October of 2014. Should the Microsoft Band's production be stopped, it is only fitting for Surface engineers to step in and to work where the Band team left off.

Speculations of a Microsoft Surface Phone have recently gone around the internet. If this is also true, a smartwatch accessory would go really well with it.

Currently, the Surface line only covers tablets and computers but this should change soon as we may possibly see a phone and a smartwatch added. The Surface tablets and computers have been warmly received and have garnered positive reviews from technophiles and regular consumers alike. The success of Surface opens an opportunity to incorporate more mobile devices into the picture.

A leaked report concerning Microsoft ordering 1.5-inch displays support the speculation of a possible Surface smartwatch. There is currently no Microsoft device that features a display that small on the market.

No official word has been given yet from Microsoft about a Surface Watch or even a Surface Phone. It is advised that consumers take these leaks, speculations, and reports with caution.

Microsoft is set to reveal the next generation of Surface products such as the Surface Pro 5 and Surface Book 2 this year so why not a Surface Watch and Surface Phone, too? 2017, it seems, is a big year for the Redmond-based tech giant.
