Mercedes Benz's New BMW 5: Trend Follows Since 1970s

Mercedes Benz's BMW line will be releasing a new BMW 5 series sedan in February. But its design has already been made since the 1970s.

The BMW 5 is a 4-door sedan vehicle. Released back in 1972, it succeeded the BMW New Class line. Initially, the BMW 5 is a 4-door sedan. The 5-door "touring" style has been added in 1991 while the 5-door liftback is added in 2009. It provided the template for most of the BMWs today since its release.

According to Paul Bracq, in-charge of BMW's design in 1970, he is quite sad that the design has been limited because of the technology back then. The headlights weren't quite as advanced back as it is today, which caused design restriction to the designers of the BMW line. Now, the upcoming BMW 5 vehicle will feature a new engine and better fuel efficiency. It maximized the existing technology and applied it to its creation.

Some of the BMW 5's features include adaptive headlights, active aero bits, dual exhaust outlets, and better engine capacity. Unlike back in the 1970s, where technology is limited and restricting, the modern-date technology will provide a much better driving experience with the BMW 5 series. The BMW 5 also has reduced its weight to 137 pounds due to steel, aluminum, and magnesium. It also made the car bigger in terms of width, length, and height. Because of these enhancements, it is guaranteed that it'll be faster than its predecessor.

As for the inside of the BMW 5 series, a lot of features have been added or upgraded. The iDrive 6.0 infotainment system gives access to a lot of the vehicle's internal features. It controls information, communication, navigation, and entertainment while focused on the road. For the BMW 5 line, the iDrive received an upgrade. It now sports gesture and voice controls as well as a HUD or heads-up display for easier use while driving on the road.

The BMW 5 series is set for release in February this year. Its price is yet to be announced as the release date gets closer.
