Topping the list of the world's greatest collector car auction is the late rock legend John Lennon's 1956 Austin Princess. The vehicle was featured in the 1972 release of the documentary "Imagine" and will be showcased as part of Barrett-Jackson's prestigious Salon Collection.
The Beatles singer's 1956 Austin Princess was purchased as an Austin hearse. It was later modified with two rows of airline seats. Lennon wanted this car for its doors' wider angle, which allowed him quick escape to avoid multitudes of crazed fans.
Another must-see car at the 2017 Scottsdale auction is Ioan Florea's Gran Torino, which was produced using a 3D printer and a liquid metal. According to Florea, his 3D-printed vehicle is an artistic creation and his homage to the second Industrial Revolution of Henry Ford's assembly line and the third Industrial Revolution of 3D printing.
Also on display at the 46th Annual Scottsdale Auction is Steven Tyler's Hennessey Venom GT. The vehicle will be sold to raise funds for Janie's Program, which was established by the Aerosmith front man for abused and neglected girls.
Tyler's Hennessey Venom GT was based on the Lotus Exige. Only 12 units of that vehicle were manufactured. He initially paid $1.1 million for the car. At the Barrett-Jackson auction, the car will be sold at no reserve.
The Barrett-Jackson car collectors' event will feature 1,600 rare vehicles. It will be attended by thousands of bidders who will fork out millions just to bring the showcased classic cars to their garage. The collector car auction will start on January 14 and will run for a week at Westworld of Scottsdale in Arizona.
