Planning to Buy a New Car? Google Reveals the Top Most Searched Car Brands of 2016

What were the most searched for car brands this year? Google recently released a list of 10 car brands with the most searches for 2016 and it makes for quite an enjoyable read.

2016 top 10 most searched for car brands. 2016 saw the launch of highly-anticipated cars from manufacturers like Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Tesla, Chevrolet, and Volvo. So what car brand actually topped this year's list of most searched?

Honda unquestionably takes the top 1 ranking, rolling out new variants of its Civic line and announcing a new CR-V for 2017. There's no denying that Honda had quite a wonderful year with its continuous releases and announcements, making it the top 1 most searched for car brand of the year. It is, in fact, the only non-luxury car manufacturer on the list. Last year, it placed third while Dodge took the top 1 spot.

Mercedes-Benz comes in second thanks to the announcement of its Mercedez-Benz C300 for 2017. It is quite surprising that a C-Class series car would make such noise on the web given that it is one of Mercedes-Benz's base models.

Tesla unveiling its Model 3 electric car in April this year contributed to a surge in searches. The Tesla P100D, however, contributed a whole lot more with interest in its capability to go reach 60 miles an hour in just two and a half seconds.

Lamborghini and Volvo rank fourth and fifth on the list thanks to pop culture and a TV commercial. The song "Purple Lamborghini" from the band Skrillex for the 2016 Suicide Squad movie soundtrack helped get Lamborghini in the top 5. Volvo's heart-breaking wedding commercial sure did its trick in getting users to search for it online.

Top 6 to 10 gives us Ford, Jaguar, Bentley, Maserati, and Rolls Royce, respectively. With how 2017 is looking for the car industry, next year's list will be similarly interesting.
