Lamborghini Urus SUV: V8 Engine and Hybrid Version Confirmed, 2017 Debut Imminent

After more than two decades without a representative in the segment of SUVs, Lamborghini is preparing for the launch of the Lamborghini Urus SUV. The new sports utility vehicle (SUV) is expected to be introduced in its production version by the middle of next year and will begin shipping late 2017 or early 2018.

Recent spy videos reported here at AutoWorldNews as well as leaked document sources showed that the Lamborghini Urus SUV will mount the 4.0-liter V8 biturbo. The team at Lamborghini said a turbocharger is completely mandatory for the Urus as it is an SUV with enough weight and needs to be able to generate huge torque capacities. The horsepower is still not confirmed but it seems that the 600 hp are insured.

Recent news reported that the Lamborghini Urus SUV will have in its range the first hybrid plug-in in the history of the brand of Sant'Agata Bolognese, according to CarbuzzThe information was revealed by Lamborghini's head of research and development, Maurizio Reggiani, who confirmed that the hybrid model is already under development.

However, there are still no details about the mechanics of the new version of the Lamborghini Urus SUV. It is believed that the model will share part of its hybrid powertrain with a future version of Bentley Bentayga, which will even be giving its platform to the new Italian SUV. Later, the Lamborghini Urus could mount a fully electric version inherited directly from Audi Q6 e-tron Quattro Concept .

Other Lamborghini Urus updates from its executive also reported that the new Urus will present a series of changes in relation to the concept presented at the Beijing Motor Show in April 2012. It will evolve considerably from the concept which will make the final car much better inside and out, according to TheDrive

The new Lamborghini Urus SUV will be built by the company in Sant'Agata Bolognese, Italy, which has recently expanded to double its size to 150,000 square meters. Lamborghini also hired 500 new employees, increased the list of distributors and have also signed new agreements with different suppliers. All this is a part of the grand plan to double production and sales and reach around 3000 sales per year with the help of the Urus.

As said earlier, the Lamborghini Urus SUV is expected to debut in 2017 and the price should be positioned in the range of the Huracán LP 610-4, which is currently sold for $2.5 million.
