Google Home is a speaker assistant developed by one of the most dominant companies in the world, Google, as part of its "Made by Google" product line. It's a voice-controlled smart speaker which is most likely to compete with Amazon Echo, a device with similar capabilities.
Reviewing the device itself, Google Home gets information from your Google account, it keeps you updated and informed about your calendar appointments and tells you how heavy the traffic will be when you commute. Google Home remembers your previous questions to better give you personalized answers when you get back.
Google Home can also control some of your smart-home gadgets. For example, it can send music and videos to your TV and speakers if you have Chromecast installed. Just say the magic word "OK, Google" or "Hey, Google," and Home will have you assisted right away.
Amazon Echo, on the other hand, is the king of the nascent smart home market. Just like Google Home, it can help you with calendars and maps, can answer your questions and tell you jokes. It can do things Google Home can, except for the ability to control home gadgets.
It was obvious that Google Home was built to compete with the Amazon Echo, and it has an advantage of being able to control home gadgets with your voice. But being a personal assistant, however, Google Home isn't yet as versatile and useful as Amazon Echo.
But Google has been able to make some improvements. You can now use the Home to control Belkin WeMo products, that's the only major integration since the Home's launch. But we are expecting that Google Home will now be able to control Netflix with the use of your voice if you have Chromecast installed, and people will be fascinated if Google will add another layer of security by integrating smart locks. So far, those are what Google has in mind.
It's too early to say that Amazon Echo defeats Google Home. We know that Google is a company with a high budget and smart developers, and through combining those assets with lots of work, upgrading Home will be just a piece of cake.
