Pokemon Sun And Moon Update: New Global Mission Revealed; Task Lowered To 1 Million Pokemon Caught, But There's A Catch

The first Pokemon Sun and Moon Global Event has not reached its goal tof being a success. This next one will try to redeem the games' promotional steps by offering bigger rewards for the simplest goals. The first event was just too much to handle for Pokemon Sun and Moon trainers worldwide.

The said first Pokemon Sun and Moon Global Event happened early December asking too much from players by giving them the task of collecting 100 million Pokemon. When it was time for counting, the global result only had 16.5 million caught Pokemon, at that point it's safe to say that it was a failure. The period of the event lasted from Nov. 29 to Dec 13.

What will the second Pokemon Sun and Moon event be like?

To be able to make up for the players, the second event has significantly lowered its quota, per se. This time, players from all around the world will only need up to a million Pokemon, but there is one tiny detail needed to be considered before a catch is recorded. According to a post at Serebii, these Pokemon must be discovered via the Island Scan feature.

How to use the Pokemon Sun and Moon Island Scan feature

Island Scan is a feature in Pokemon Sun and Pokemon Moon that has just been rolled out. This can be acquired once the player has earned 100 points by scanning QR codes while playing the game(s). When using the Island Scan feature, Pokemon Sun and Moon trainers can locate Pokemon that doesn't exist in the Alola region Pokedex.

When will the second Pokemon Sun and Moon Global Event Happen?

The second Pokemon Sun and Moon event will start today, Dec. 27 at 4:00 UTC. This would be Monday Dec. 26 PST or 11:00 PM EST. The event will last until Jan. 9, 2017 at 23:59 UTC. Again, it is important to note that counting of the caught Pokemon happens only when being spotted via Island Scan feature.
