Honda Beats Chevrolet For 2016's Top ‘Year In Search’ List On Google US; Tesla Jumps From No. 10 to 3

Honda hopped two spots up on Google's 'Year in Search' list of automotive brands that are trending in the US. Along with Tesla and Mercedes-Benz, these are the only brands remaining under the new ranking method by the world's most popular search engine.

2015's best cars result was based on 'most-searched' while this year ranks the 'trending' names, this makes it non-comparable, at least directly, says Automotive News. The same post also says that a Google spokesperson labeled 'trending' data as search terms with the most maintained highs for search traffic.

Chevrolet, who was No. 1 last year, was dethroned by Honda as the brand sustained high interest levels this year. Future products such as Pilot, CR-V and the 2017 HR-V were said to be responsible for such high trends.

The same post also says that Mercedes-Benz has moved up from fourth to second, trailing behind Honda as this year's trending name in the automotive industry. Mercedes-Benz's most popular keywords were the Maybach Exelero and GLC300. Dodge used to be second last year.

Biggest Leap: Tesla

Getting to third place on the most searched car brands in the US is Tesla, which came from No. 10 last year. The brand came to fame along with its unveiling of the Model 3 design.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk was also part of the spotlight as his name and Tesla won '2016 Breakout Search.' According to the report, Musk's name had its peak on Sept. 25 when the SpaceX incident happened, involving the explosion of Falcon 9.

Honda's Success in 2016

On top of being Google's most trending automotive brand, Forbes made a positive review on the Honda CR-V. The site said the brand-new Honda CR-V is larger, wider and longer compared to its predecessors. The auto review also says that the style is more aggressive due to its hood and body panels. To top it off, Forbes said that Honda would assure its continued success in the Entry XSUV market.
