Olympic gold medalist Usain Bolt spent Thursday at Nissan's headquarters in Japan to unveil a custom gold-painted Nissan GT-R that was designed with the sprinter in mind.
The $100,000 custom designed gold vehicle will be sold on eBay with the proceeds going to the Usain Bolt charity foundation. The Usain Bolt Foundation creates educational and cultural opportunities in his native Jamaica.
Nissan sent Formula 1 driver Mark Webber to get the 25-year-old from the Tokyo airport the night before the event. Bolt was allowed to race a GT-R on a track near the company headquarters with competitive driver Michael Krumm. He topped the car out at its max speed of 112 mph.
That's not the only reason Bolt was their however, as he signed a contract to become their "Director of Excitement" confirming that Bolt will appear in more advertisement campaigns with the company similar to the ones shown last summer.
Bolt has supported the Nissan GT-R since 2009, and promoted the car series in an advertisement this past summer. In the interview he discusses why he loves the car and that he has been a fan of Nissan since the early 90's.
The company also announced in partnership with Bolt they will be designing a car for the Olympian that he can keep as well. Bolt will assist Nissan during production of the car which will be a 545-hp GT-R. The only confirmed aspect of the car is that it will be customized based on Bolt's acceleration, and reaction times.
For a limited time only the "Bolt Edition" GT-R's will be sold to the public as well. No release dates for the car have been confirmed yet. The company is only doing this for Bolt because they feel so strongly about his global appeal and dominance on the track.
Bolt won Olympic gold in the 100 m and 200 m this past summer.
