"Blade Runners 2049," the long-awaited sequel to "Blade Runner" starring Ryan Gosling and Ford Harrison, is scheduled to hit cinemas on October of 2017. Fans of Blade Runner have been waiting for this sequel for more than 30 years, considering that the original movie was shown in 1982. Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford will play the role of Los Angeles Police District officers.
Blade Runner 2049 happens 30 years after the events in the first Blade Runner movie. Blade Runners were policemen assigned to track down what was known to be replicants or human-made androids, that look highly similar to humans, who were made to work in colonies in space. They were not allowed to live on Earth, but some of them escaped from the space colonies and came anyway. The duty of the blade runners was to eliminate these androids, as they can pose great danger to human beings, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The trailer of the movie is set on a desert landscape and glowing neon streets, both reminiscent of the first Blade Runner movie. The setting will make moviegoers who saw the original Blade Runner remember the movie. It also further cements the style of the director of Blade Runner 2049, Denis Villaneuve, according to USA Today.
Some fans of the first Blade Runner film worry that the sequel might just be a reboot of the original. Harrison Ford was reluctant to reprise his role, but after he read the script, he accepted it. With the original director Ridley Scott helping with the project and well-known director Denis Villeneuve taking the helm as director, fans have nothing to worry about, according to Digital Trends.
The film will also feature Robin Wright, Jared Leto, Mackenzie David, Barkhad Abdi, Hiam Abbass, Ana de Armas and Leenie James. "Blade Runner 2049" will be shown in all cinemas on October 6, 2017.
