Mercedes-AMG GT R Review: Intimidating and Aggressive; Is This Car Made for the Road or the Track? [VIDEO]

The Mercedes-AMG GT R, the newest member of the AMG GT family, was unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed last summer. The Mercedes-AMG GT R, designed to challenge supercars like Audi R8 and Porsche 911, looked intimidating with its wider body and longer hood hiding a powerful engine, looking like a GT3 racer despite the fact that it served as successor to the road car GT S.

Differences in acceleration and top speed figures have become irrelevant in a world of sportscars where vehicles can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3 seconds or slightly more. Thus, setting lap times has become an important routine in testing the capabilities of new cars like the Mercedes-AMG GT R, according to Car and Driver.

In the Nurburgring track where most racecars and sports vehicles have been tested to establish its speed record, the Mercedes-AMG GT R proved its might on the tracks, completing one lap in 7 minutes and 10 seconds. This was just a hairline higher than the McLaren P1's record, which completed one lap at 6 minutes and 48 seconds. Such impressive speed is amazing in a car designed to ply roads rather than race tracks, according to Top Gear.

Made mostly of carbon fiber material instead of aluminum, the Mercedes-AMG GT R is lighter than its predecessor, and this resulted in a faster road car. Its great speed comes from a 4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine that produces 577 hp with a seven-speed dual-clutch. Despite its speed, its Ride Control and traction control system keeps everything safely planted in its place, according to Auto Week,

However, people who prefer to enjoy a good conversation while driving might find it impossible to do as the V8 engine gives a sound produced only by powerful cars. This car in particular has been made to make non-racing car drivers experience what it's like to drive a car as fast as the Mercedes-AMG GT R.
