Jeep Grand Wagoneer Release Delayed; Will FCA Be Able to Pull this Project Off? [VIDEO]

Jeep Grand Wagoneer, once one of the most promising vehicles that FCA was building, was recently put on hold as FCA faced financial and factory issues. It was supposed to be released in 2017, but the delay might mean that the Jeep Grand Wagoneer will be released in the coming years instead. Or worse, it might never reach the market at all.

Although FCA is considered to be among the world's top automakers, it has been steeped in debt amounting to billions of dollars, and is in the process of taking measures to cut this debt. However, cash is not the only issue that derails the completion of the Jeep Grand Wagoneer. The vehicle was supposed to accommodate three rows of seats, resulting in a length that would not fit the assembly line of the different FCA plants in Northern America, according to Automotive News. The company should either retool its plant to accommodate the vehicle, modify its dimensions, or redesign it.

There were suggestions to redesign the Jeep Grand Wagoneer to reflect the Ram 2500 Power Wagon, a refreshed version of the RAM 1500, so that it can be built in either the Warren Truck Assembly Plant or in the Saltillo Truck Assembly Plant in Mexico. These could easily accommodate heavy duty wagons, according to Top Speed.

On the other hand, modifying the length of the Grand Jeep Wagoneer would offset the plan to have three rows of seats, which might affect sales. Also, the change in length will make the Jeep Grand Cherokee unable to challenge the Range Rover and instead be counted as potential rival to Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban and Ford Expedition/Lincoln Navigator, according to Car Advice.

If the Jeep Grand Wagoneer project will be pulled off, the vehicle can be expected to be in the market in 2018 or 2019. But, if FCA's problems cannot be resolved, the Jeep Grand Wagoneer might never set its wheels on the road.
