These functions that are slowly being standardized in the automotive industry, recently enabled the 2017 BMW 5 Series to lock the doors with a burglar inside, and locate the vehicle position to facilitate the arrest of the thief.

The incident happened a few days ago in Seattle, as told by BBCNarrated by Jonah Spangenthal-Lee, head of the communication department of Seattle police, a citizen had alerted a missing 2017 BMW 5 Series that apparently, the driver had parked in the garage, with the doors open and the keys inside.

Realizing that the 2017 BMW 5 Series has connectivity services, they contacted BMW assistance to locate the vehicle. Although this technology is not designed to caught a thief inside a vehicle but to just establish the location, BMW managed to lock the doors trapping the thief.

Ironically, the thief then called the police and reported his situation being stuck at a 2017 BMW 5 Series and when the police went to the location where the car had stopped, they found the thief asleep in the driver's seat and the car engine on. Upon his arrest, police also seized a small amount of methamphetamine, which doubles the thief sentence.
