10 Best-Selling Cars of September 2012

Car sales were up approximately 11 percent so in September with 1,066,711 cars sold total for auto makers. This is a good sign for the U.S. considering most other industries supporting the country are suffering or struggling to break even.

The automakers that saw the largest improvements in September are the same ones that have exceeded the industry throughout 2012. Toyota rose a stunning 41.5 percent overall, Honda went up 30.9 percent and Chrysler 11.5 percent.

Chrysler has been on a roll in 2012 compared to last year which saw sale numbers decrease almost monthly. They owe the 11.5 percent increase largely due to the Ram pickup series which sold at a respectable rate during the month. This could be attributed to auto dealers trying to get rid of the 2012 models to make room for the next line of pickups in 2013.

Toyota and Honda's exceptional sales numbers in September are largely attributed to the horrible year they had last year due to supply shortages from the Mar. 2011 earthquake and tsunami. The auto maker was still hurting this time last year from the disaster, which caused their numbers to be extremely low.

Toyota has rebounded however in 2012, and has big plans to revive the company over the course of the next five years.

Toyota saw sale numbers increase for models such as the Camry which bumped up 38 percent and the new Lexus models like the redesigned ES which moved up 80 percent. Most of Honda's sales came from the Accord and Civic which moved up 57 percent.

Major automakers like GM, Ford, and Nissan all saw minimal losses or gains in September. GM mainly saw an increase in mini, small or compact cars which was up 97 percent compared to last September.

Sales overall were down for Ford overall, but saw an increase in sales for small cars such as the Focus, Fiesta and C-Max.
