Paris Auto Show Update: Citroen Unleashes DS3 Cabrio

Citroen has revealed its drop-top super-mini DS3 Cabrio at the Paris Auto Show this week.

Instead of being a full on convertible, the door pillars and rear side windows stay in place and only the roof panel comes out. In just 16 seconds mind you.

The soft top adds only 55 pounds to the car's overall weight, and it can be electronically closed or opened while driving the vehicle at speeds over 70 mph.

This means however that the canvas roof is open to many custom options and comes in an assortment of colors and designs. The canvas is intertwined from three diverse colored threads that react different during the day.  A new taillight setup was also introduced which contains of 31 LED lights and semi-reflecting mirrors to create a sort of 3-D type effect.

Inside the vehicle is similar, yet still slightly smaller in comparison to the Cabrio hatchback. The cabin storage is similar as well with a 60/40 split folding rear bench and boot space has only 40 litres taken out of it.

The main difference between the new car and the hatchback is an extra piece of trim mounted on the trunk lid.

The DS3 will be motorized by PSA's all-new three-cylinder gasoline engine and 87 lb-ft. of torque.  The DS3 Cabrio's other engines will include two gasoline engines developed by PSA and BMW and a 92-horsepower turbo diesel one as well.

The car is expected to go on sale sometime within the next year or so in Europe. No price has been listed for the vehicle yet.
