Honda announced Monday that they have recalled 573,147 Accord midsize cars to fix a defective power steering hose that could leak fluid and potentially start a fire under the hood.

The recall affects Accords from the 2003 through 2007 model years that are furnished with V-6 engines. This decision comes just five months after the company announced that they were recalling the Acura TL midsize luxury car in May. 56,881 total Acuras were affected by the recall including 52,615 vehicles in the U.S.

The company will be replacing the hoses for free, but they have stated the parts won't be available until sometime in 2013 at the earliest. Owners who think their car may have a leak problem should take their car into a dealer to be examined. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said the hoses used in the car tend to deteriorate very quickly, which can occasionally cause cracks and leaks. In Canada, 30,058 Accords have been recalled as well.

The Japanese automaker said no crashes or injuries have been reported due to the issue the vehicles are having, but one engine fire has been reported. Accord owners will be notified by mail next year when the new hoses are in and ready for installation, but the initial notification of the issue will start sometime later this month.

The seventh generation of the Accord was launched in 2002 and consists of two separate models; one for North America and another for European and Japanese locations. The Accord is Honda's top selling car in the nation, and ranks number two overall, coming in slightly behind the Toyota Camry.

The Honda Accord series has been manufactured by Honda since 1976. In 1982, the Accord series made history when it became the first car from a Japanese manufacturer to be produced in the United States.
